In Kenya a staggering 50% of horticultural produce never makes it to the market. A lack of access to cold storage results in huge post-harvest losses as farmers await buyers for their produce. SokoFresh is working to drastically cut these losses and reshape the market by offering rentable cold storage near farmers’ fields and connecting them with buyers via an online platform.
Founded in 2019 SokoFresh is professionalizing the fragmented agri-value chain that is resulting in post-harvest loss as a result of no cold storage and mismatched supply and demand. Their rentable cold-storage solution & market platform offers investment free access to the small holder farmers who are disproportionally affected by the failings of the current chain.
By letting farmers keep their food fresh for longer and facilitating improved demand matching SokoFresh will increase farmers income and stabilize food prices whilst cutting food loss. In 2023 they hope to store 12,000 tons of produce annually, serving 5,000 farmers.
